Certificates and Professional Titles

The ChAD wishes to make an important distinction between certificates and professional designations.

The certificate isssued by the Autorité des marchés financiers gives a person the authorization to practice as a broker, an agent or an expert. One cannot obtain a professional title without first obtaining a certificate, which gives the right to practice.

Moreover, a title as an Associated or Chartered Insurance Broker does not allow one to carry out tasks related with another profession. For example, a member who is certified in personal lines insurance (A.I.B.) cannot carry out tasks in business insurance.

The acts that are authorized under the terms of the law are specifically associated with the discipline of the certificate, not with the professional title.

A broker keeps his professional title inasmuch as his broker certificate is in good standing. If he becomes an agent or if he loses his certificate, he can no longer use his professional title.
