Claims Adjuster
The claims adjuster is a certified professional who works either for an independent firm or for an insurer. Claims adjusters analyze the facts and circumstances of claims (fire, theft, accidents, etc.), and also:
• Take in the claims presented by the policyholders
• Take the statement made by third parties (police officers, firemen, etc)
• Assess damages and liabilities
• Draft investigation reports
• Negotiates settlements
• Calls in specialists and coordinates their activities
Most cases are settled by phone, but claims adjusters occasionally visit the site of an incident.
Being a good claims adjuster requires sound judgement and good listening skills, as well as a capacity to adapt to – and a talent to explain – complex issues. Claims adjusters are also recognized for their:
• Empathy

• Drafting abilities
