The steps

To become a damage insurance agent, a damage insurance broker or a damage insurance claims adjuster, you must hold the appropriate certificate, issued by the AMF. For this, you must have successfully completed the program’s required courses and followed a training session.

You can follow one of these two college professional education programs:
• A Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in Insurance and Financial Services Consultancy, or
• An Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC) in Damage Insurance

You can also take the exams without following the courses, provided you have held a full-time job for at least three years and you have one of the two following diplomas:
• A postsecondary diploma that represents at least 450 hours of education
• A high school education

In order to prepare for the exams, you must order the appropriate handbooks from the AMF. Once you succeed your exams, you must carry out a 45-day training course to work in the personal lines insurance field or a commercial lines insurance field. If you wish to work in both areas, you must make a 90-day training course.

Once your training courses completed, you will become a “candidate for the profession” and you can present a request for certification with the AMF in order to obtain professional status, with the right to practice in Quebec.

This certificate automatically makes you a member of the ChAD.

In a nutshell…
• Obtain the required professional education
• Succeed the AMF exams
• Do the training courses
• Obtain the certificate from the AMF
